The first step in figuring out how much money you will need during retirement is to think about what you will do in retirement. For some, retirement is a time to do all of the things they never had time for while working. For others, it is a time for leisure and rest. For most, it is something in between. What is it for you?

Well, to help you get thinking, put yourself in this position: It is the first day of retirement. The alarm goes off and you hit snooze. Thinking better of it, you throw the alarm clock out the window!

Three hours later, you greet the day, eat breakfast and walk out the front door on the first day of the rest of your retirement life.
