Historical Returns

Historically, growth and value stocks have moved in and out of favor at different times. You may benefit from having both types of funds in your portfolio. The decline of one may be offset by the rise of the other.

The size of the company also affects risk. The larger the company, generally the safer it usually is. Well-established companies have been around for a while, so there is less of a chance that something will happen that will substantially affect the financial well-being of that company.
